Before buying cheap bridesmaid dresses

November 19th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses No Comments »

Before looking and purchasing your bridesmaids cheap dress there are some factors you must take into consideration. Like first determining who will be in your bridal party? How many people are you planning to participate in the event? Now I’m sure you have this already work this out. But have you taken into account these 3 steps.

* Are all your bridesmaids adults or do you have children to take into consideration?

* Are your bridesmaids slender or are they a bit larger? Maybe you have both and you will need to make sure they all look fantastic without taking the lime light of the bride.

* What time of year are you planning the wedding? It may be winter, spring or summer.

So you see there are additional things that need to be addressed before you start to look for your cheap bridesmaid dresses. Especially the time of year you are planning to get married. In winter you may need to find dresses that offer a bit more warmth for your bridesmaids, while in summer and spring you can go with a lighter fabric type dress.

It is also important if you are planning an outdoor or indoor wedding. So be sure to figure out what the weather is like in these types of seasons. For example if you live in a tropical part of the world, nine times out of ten it will be raining in summer or the humidity will be through the roof and everybody will be sweating like pigs. The same goes with living in a much colder part of the world where it snows in winter, everyone’s going to be freezing especially you and your bridesmaids.

It’s really not that hard to avoid, you just have you’re wedding in winter if you have hot summers and summer if you have cold winters. To me though spring offers a neutral type of weather that is not to hot and not to cold!!

Once you have it all figured out you can now focus on your wedding dress and your bridesmaids dresses. Now finding the style of dresses that will make your wedding perfect really is made easy these day with the Internet. You can find thousands of different styles and themes all from the comfort of your own home. As long as you have everyone’s dress size you should have no trouble at all finding cheap bridesmaids dresses. So shop around this will not only help you with finding those perfect dresses but will give you some great ideas for your ideal wedding.

Use Silk Rose Petals to Match a Bridesmaid Dress

November 19th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses No Comments »

There seem to be a lot of brides-to-be out there looking for accents for their wedding. Some brides might be particular about color schemes that occur in their wedding - for instance, matching something to their bridesmaid dresses. One of the interesting alternatives is something as festive and simple as wedding petals.
I will provide some information about these “wedding petals” that may have gotten you curious.
1. Where would I put the petals? How can I use them?
Answer: You can spread them over tables, put them on the floor, place them in baskets (with wedding favors), have the flower girl throw them around, or have them fall from the rafters (if you have a high ceiling).
2. Are the petals real?
Answer: No, they are artificial petals / artificial rose petals Some people use the term fake petals / fake rose petals.
3. What are they made of?
Answer: They are usually called silk rose petals but they are actually made of microfiber. If they were made of silk, they would not be sturdy enough to retain their shape. Some cheap petals are made of starched material that feels like linen.
4. How much do silk petals [wedding petals] go for?
Answer: Some silk petals go for as low as $2.50 for 100 petals but some can price at $5-$10 for a set of 100.
5. Do they feel real?
Answer: Silk petals are made of microfiber - it bears some realism to the feeling of a real rose petal.
6. Do they come in different colors? What different colors are out there?
Answer: You can find wedding petals in virtually any color of the rainbow.
If you are looking for a festive alternative, and want something that has versatility and is classy, I would suggest using silk rose petals.

Wedding Dress Preservation

November 19th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Wedding Dresses No Comments »

wedding dress is something which is used one day and remains on a hanger the rest of its life. Girls keep pre-purchased wedding dresses years before the wedding and decades after. Oftentimes, bridal dresses stay in closets and, sometimes, hang on the closet door. In such conditions, these dresses slowly yellow and rot. Wedding dress preservation saves a lot of space and allows owners to stop worrying about the dress’ condition.

Wedding Dress Preservation — The Process

The industry combines the very best knowledge and methods from conservation science and experience with museum collections. Archive storage techniques can now take care of the bride’s needs in the same way as textile conservations in museums. The preservation process includes dry cleaning of the dress, chemical treatment (to prevent yellowing), stain inspection and cleaning, pressing, folding and carefully packing it into a special sealed container.

Air from the container is removed and replaced by an inert gas mixture. Companies return the dress to the client in sealed boxes. The wedding gowns is now ready for long term storage and safekeeping.

Wedding gown preservation has its own special features and techniques. Different gowns may have different cleaning processes, depending on the fabric. The dress folding procedure is performed using special gloves, which protect the dress from possible particles including oil and salt from the skin of the preservation technician. Preservation containers and folding tissues for the wedding dress differs from regular storage boxes, which are made from paper. Ordinary paper boxes and folding tissues may contain acid from tree pump that remains from the paper manufacturing process. Bridal gown preservation containers are usually made from plastic. Non-fabric components of the dress may also bring on problems during the preservation process. Metal details, such as zippers, may cause rust stains; and plastic may melt or discolor, making marks.

Wedding Gown Preservation — The Costs

All preservation work usually is performed by professional companies. Sometimes, companies offer only airtight containers, leaving the clients to do all the preservation cleaning work including the folding (and sometimes the air removal). High level industry professionals perform full reconstruction of any condition dress and its any elements. They will return it to its best condition prior to the preservation. Some companies provide a guarantee for their work. This guarantee can be as long as 20 years.

Prices for full service wedding dress preservation typically costs anywhere from 120 to 350 US dollars. The price depends on many factors. It is more expensive when the dress design is more complicated. Layers and extra volume of the skirt make matters worse, which means higher prices. Also, dresses with a lot of embroidery, beads, cathedral train or antique fabric are more expensive for preservation. Extra fees are also charged if the gown has pads and spills.

Shop For Your Bridesmaid Dresses

November 19th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses No Comments »

Every bride has a vision of her wedding party as they walk down the aisle. You have a color in mind, a style and your maids have been carefully chosen. Shopping for your bridesmaid dresses should be easy, but its not. Maids or mom do not like the style, the color or the fabric. Take the sting out of shopping for your bridesmaid dresses by keeping in mind your maids body shape and their budget.

Pre shop for your maids with just ONE trusted friend, the maid of honor, your sister or your mother. Look at the different styles, colors and fabrics and narrow down your choices to no more than three dresses. Then make an appointment with the salon to bring your maids to pick THE dress, giving all the maids a choice and a vote.

When pre shopping, its really important to keep your maids body shape in mind. Happy maids equal a happy wedding. If they are uncomfortable in the style you have chosen, you will have problems. You need to concentrate on dresses that will flatter their figures, are within their budget and whether they want to wear the dress again. If you choose a knee length dress, they will have to buy matching shoes which needs to be added to their budget costs.

No one has a bridal party where everyone is built the same or has perfect figures. Every body shape is different. and none are perfect. What will flatter your size 8 sister may look awful on a size 20 best friend. If you have a large busted maid, you can not expect her to go bra-less in a plunging neckline. She will be uncomfortable, you will be uncomfortable.

Do not hesitate to ask your bridal consultant for help in choosing dresses that will flatter your maids. Tell the consultant the range of sizes, keeping in mind that their regular size will not be the same in a maids dress. bridesmaid dress run smaller because they are cut directly to the body, there is no ease or wiggle room in the dress. If your friend is a size 12 in regular clothes and you order a size 12, chances it will not fit her. Bridesmaid dresses are sized by measurements and they run small.

If one of your maids is a plus size, she will have to pay extra for a larger size. It is a manufacturers charge, it costs more money to produce because they use more fabric. You need to keep her in mind when choosing a dress. You do not want to put a plus size gal in a mermaid silhouette unless she is built perfectly in proportion. You also do not want to put any pear shaped or larger hipped maid in a sleek mermaid silhouette. It will not flatter them. Instead, choose a softly flowing A line skirt that flows over the hips. Your maid will look slimmer, she will be comfortable and you will be happier.

If you have a maid who is very large busted, avoid plunging necklines or any dress neckline where she can not wear a strapless bra. Many of today’s strapless dresses have built in bras and detachable spaghetti straps. Be aware that some maids will still have to wear a strapless bra. Look for a dress with a straight across strapless neckline that comes up high enough on the bodice to hid the cleavage.

If you have maids that are thick in the waistline, look for empire waist or baby doll dresses. Wrapped waist dresses that wrap to the side of the dress are very slimming and give the illusion of having a smaller waistline.

If you have a maid that is very small busted, bra cups sewn into her dress can even up her figure. It is a very common alteration and very inexpensive.

If your maids want to wear the dress again, the truth is that they probably will not because a bridesmaid dress is a formal dress. However, if you choose a color that they can wear again and a simple elegant style, they can. Long dresses can be shortened to knee or tea length. Brooches can be unpinned, straps or a little jacket or shawl can be worn with it. If you INSIST on putting them in baby pink poofy rouched pick up skirts, make sure they are all up for it and can afford the expenditure before you commit to the purchase.

Another thing to keep in mind is that not all dresses and styles come in all colors. If you just have to have a color, you will waste a lot of time shopping and limit yourself to very few choices. Instead, shop for the style and pick a shade variation based on your color choice. And please consider whether the color will be flattering on your bridesmaids.

The quality of the dress does matter. If you fall in love with a bridesmaid dress your maids can not afford, and you see a knock off of the dress for a ridiculously low price, it is not going to be the same dress you saw in a salon. The fit will be different, the cut will be different, the fabric will be different. It probably will not have that cool built in bra or enough support to keep the girls in place. It probably will wrinkle more than the original because they are using lower grade fabric. If you do not see it and can not touch it, please do not buy it sight unseen. You will save yourself and your bridesmaids a lot of disappointment.

Bridesmaids Dresses - How Far Would You Be Prepared

November 19th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses No Comments »

I have just spent 4 days in steamy Dubai - fantastic to get away from the bad weather here, and I was even prepared to put up with the humidity just to feel some sun on my face. Well, sunny and humid it was, but a fantastic place with back to the future buildings, and some serious shopping available to all in huge malls.

It’s a relatively short flight at just over 6 hours, but it gave me enough time to watch a couple of films. One of which was 27 wedding dresses.

27 Dresses, stars Katherine Heigle (playing Jane) who is always the bridesmaid but never the bride. She scours the papers for marriage notices, and devours every detail, dreaming of the day when she will be the bride. She’s bridesmaid to 27 of her friends, even attending two weddings on one day. The 27 bridesmaid dresses - dutifully preserved in Jane’s cramped closet range from gothic to Little Bo Peep, to cowgirlish, from too revealingly slight to eye-stingingly garish. She really had to be a best friend to wear some of these outfits. She models each and every one of these outfits to Weddings Journalist “Kevin”.

Which made me think about how far you would be prepared to go for your best friend. Would you really wear something which you absolutely hated, or looked awful in because the colour didn’t suit you, was the wrong shape for your body……… just because the bride wanted you to!

I had the interesting job of trying to find bridesmaids dresses that would suit two twenty somethings, both extremely skinny, but one with a larger “chest” than the other, and my best friend who was twenty years older than the other two and rather larger all round. Not an easy task. We started off with trying to find a dress for the two younger ones, and perhaps trying to contrast a different style with the older bridesmaid (making her the Matron of Honour). This was extremely difficult as the styles and fabrics didn’t quite work and they just looked like separate themes. By chance we found a high street shop that had their Xmas stock in and hanging on the rails was a strapless knee length ball gown. One by one they tried on the same dress, and amazingly all three looked fantastic - it suited all of them, despite the different shapes and size. Result when we least expected it.
