Tips for Pick Out Your Bridesmaid Dresses(2)

November 13th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses Comments Off

Tip 1: Choose between one-piece dresses and separates.

Although traditionally, all bridesmaid dresses consists of one-piece gowns, choosing separates over gowns may make it easier for you to find a style that suits each of your bridesmaids.

Tip 2: Consider the season when picking out your bridesmaid dresses.

The weather and the time of the year are helpful factors when it comes to determining gown styles and fabrics. For summer or spring weddings, go for lighter fabrics, short hems and even strapless styles. For winter weddings, you may want to go for floor-length dresses, sleeved gowns and shawls for the bridesmaid dresses.

Tip 3: Keep things simple when it comes to accessorizing.

Less is more when it comes to bridesmaid jewelry. Since it’s customary for the bride to give her bridesmaids gifts, why not give your bridesmaids matching jewelry pieces to wear to your wedding?

A lovely pair of earrings, a necklace or a brooch is enough to make your bridesmaids appear chic, sleek and fashion-fabulous.

If you’re going for an ultra-formal look, then nice gloves and shawls are always great bridesmaid accessories.

Tip 4: Keep things comfortable when choosing footwear. To keep your bridesmaids looking and feeling their absolute best, keep their comfort in mind when you pick out their shoes. Think about it: they’ll be standing for long periods of time and will probably dance the night away during the reception; you wouldn’t want them tripping and feeling uncomfortable in impossibly high heels, right? Low-heeled, strappy sandals are always comfortable and stylish options for your bridesmaids’ footwear.

Another option is to ask your bridesmaids to provide their own shoes for the event. Simply specify your desired shoe color, and you’re good to go.

Keep your bridesmaid dress-hunt hassle-free by following these simple tips.

Tips for Pick Out Your Bridesmaid Dresses(1)

Planning a dream wedding could be an extremely stressful affair. As the bride, you have to make decisions about your wedding theme, the ceremony and reception decorations, the catering, your wedding dress and even the dresses of your bridesmaids.

You may be wondering why bridesmaid dresses are so important; after all, they’re not the ones getting married. Well, whether you like it or not, you have to invest quite some time figuring out how your bridesmaid dresses can fit in with your wedding’s overall theme.

A great bridesmaid dress should complement or provide a great contrast between your wedding dress, the invitations and even the flowers you’re using to decorate your chosen venue. In short, bridesmaid dresses should match or, at the very least, complement your wedding’s color scheme.

Choosing Bridesmaid Dresses

The following are some tips on how you can pick out your bridesmaid dresses:

Tip 1: Pick something simple that will make your bridesmaids look chic, feminine and sophisticated.

You’re the bride, so it’s only fitting that you be the center of attention on your big day, but it’s equally important that your bridesmaids look their best as well. Simple but elegant bridesmaid dresses will keep eyes on you without making your closest female friends and family members look like complete eyesores.

Tip 2: Choose bridesmaid dresses that flatter everyone’s figure.

Bridesmaids, just like bridesmaid dresses come in different shapes and sizes. Though you want uniformity, it is possible that your chosen bridesmaid dress design won’t flatter everyone. If you really want uniformity between the bridesmaid dresses, then choose universally flattering dress shapes and styles for your bridesmaid gowns.

Empire waists, princess skirts and A-Line dresses all flatter different figures; pick the style that will suit all the female members of your wedding entourage.

Tip 3: If you’re after diversity, then you can ask your bridesmaids for their desired dress styles and colors.

Some brides prefer a little variety when it comes to bridesmaid dresses. If you’re okay with having bridesmaids dressed in different colors or styles, then save yourself from the headache of having to choose dress designs for each of your bridesmaids. Ask your bridesmaids to pick out their preferred dress styles themselves.

Tip 4: Work with a budget.

Let’s face it: weddings are expensive affairs. Unless you have a massive bank account, you have to work with a wedding budget. It’s unfair for your bridesmaids to pick out extremely pricey designer bridesmaid dresses. If you have a budget to follow, inform your bridesmaids. You have to do what you can to make sure all the other aspects of your wedding are financially taken cared of.

Shop For Bridesmaid Dresses

When pre shopping, its really important to keep your maids body shape in mind. Happy maids equal a happy wedding. If they are uncomfortable in the style you have chosen, you will have problems. You need to concentrate on dresses that will flatter their figures, are within their budget and whether they want to wear the bridesmaid dresses again. If you choose a knee length dress, they will have to buy matching shoes which needs to be added to their budget costs.

No one has a bridal party where everyone is built the same or has perfect figures. Every body shape is different. and none are perfect. What will flatter your size 8 sister may look awful on a size 20 best friend. If you have a large busted maid, you can not expect her to go bra-less in a plunging neckline. She will be uncomfortable, you will be uncomfortable.

Do not hesitate to ask your bridal consultant for help in choosing dresses that will flatter your maids. Tell the consultant the range of sizes, keeping in mind that their regular size will not be the same in a maids dress. Maids dresses run smaller because they are cut directly to the body, there is no ease or wiggle room in the dress. If your friend is a size 12 in regular clothes and you order a size 12, chances it will not fit her. Bridesmaid dresses are sized by measurements and they run small.

If one of your maids is a plus size, she will have to pay extra for a larger size. It is a manufacturers charge, it costs more money to produce because they use more fabric. You need to keep her in mind when choosing a dress. You do not want to put a plus size gal in a mermaid silhouette unless she is built perfectly in proportion. You also do not want to put any pear shaped or larger hipped maid in a sleek mermaid silhouette. It will not flatter them. Instead, choose a softly flowing A line skirt that flows over the hips. Your maid will look slimmer, she will be comfortable and you will be happier.

If you have a maid who is very large busted, avoid plunging necklines or any dress neckline where she can not wear a strapless bra. Many of today’s strapless dresses have built in bras and detachable spaghetti straps. Be aware that some maids will still have to wear a strapless bra. Look for a dress with a straight across strapless neckline that comes up high enough on the bodice to hid the cleavage.

If you have maids that are thick in the waistline, look for empire waist or baby doll bridesmaid dress. Wrapped waist dresses that wrap to the side of the dress are very slimming and give the illusion of having a smaller waistline.

If you have a maid that is very small busted, bra cups sewn into her dress can even up her figure. It is a very common alteration and very inexpensive.

4 Tips For Buying Beach Wedding Bridesmaid Dress

November 13th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses Comments Off

each weddings often indicate an occasion that is less glamorous compared to the traditional weddings. This does not mean though that the bride and the bridesmaids need not get glammed up. They have to – just not over the top – because it wouldn’t look good in the laidback setting of the ocean behind them.
1. For beach wedding bridesmaid dresses, just make sure that the length of the gowns do not touch the sand. Ideally, the length is up to the calf. Bridesmaids must still look elegant but they should also be wearing dresses that allow them to easily walk on the beach.
These dresses can either be with sleeves or strapless but these should also match with the gown or the dress of the bride. Whatever style the bride’s beach wedding dress is, it should be complemented by the beach wedding bridesmaid dresses.
2. The bride’s beach wedding dress and the beach wedding bridesmaid dresses should also have matching hem lengths. For example, if the bride is wearing a gown that is of full length, then the bridesmaids should wear dresses or gowns of any length.
However, if the bride’s beach wedding dress is shorter than the traditional gown, then the beach wedding dresses must also be short.
3. If the beach wedding bridesmaid dresses are strapless or are backless, then the bride must order wraps for them. Remember that the weather on the beach is so unpredictable. There is a possibility that the wedding day may be windy or cloudy.
Therefore, when the bride is buying beach wedding bridesmaid dress, she should also look for designs that already have matching wraps. If not, then she must go to bridal shop or a formal wear shop that sells these items. She just has to set the wraps and the beach wedding bridesmaid dresses side by side to check that these match.
4. Also note that it is hard to walk on the sand so there is no point to wear stocking and heels. Dressier dresses require strappy sandals with short heels. If it is a more casual design, then one can just opt for flip flops with stylish decorations. Go for a bare look.

If you’re planning a wedding, you need to make time to talk to your bridesmaids about the dresses they will wear. If you have not yet selected the bridesmaids’ dresses, you will want to do so as soon as possible. These bridesmaid dresses will require alterations and sometimes fabrication. You may need to give the dressmaker two to three months to make adjustments as necessary, depending on the season.

The first thing to do is to set up a day to try on dresses with your bridesmaids. The bride should not make all the choices here, unless she wants a group of bridesmaids that are less than happy with the outcome. Rather, you should first consider the style and design of the dresses with the women. The final word is that the bride gets to choose the bridesmaids’ dresses. This means that everyone should be present when trying on the dresses. Take a few minutes to find out what opportunities are available to you online. You should also remember that the latest trends and fashion styles say that bridesmaids can have different color or different style bridesmaid dress within the same wedding party.

Recycling Old Bridesmaid Dresses As Costumes

November 11th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses Comments Off

The movie 27 Dresses starring Katherine Heigl tells the story of a woman who has difficulty saying no; consequently, she has been a bridesmaid on 27 different occasions, but never a bride. She has accumulated a closet full of bright, colorful bridesmaid dresses, which she just can’t seem to throw away.

Though it is unlikely that you have accumulated as many dresses as this poor girl, you may have one or two gowns in your possession that you will never wear again, but which you would feel guilty throwing away. Why not turn one or all of them into costumes for your kids? A silk taffeta nightmare of a dress can be made into a beautiful ball gown for your little princess. I took a lovely blue dress (puffed sleeves, sweetheart neckline, fitted bodice - really, when was I ever going to wear that again?) and turned it into Cinderella’s ball gown. A trip to the store provided a wand and tiara to match and some clear plastic sandals stood in for the glass slippers.

Another lovely handmade dress, this one yellow with lace trim, became Belle’s gown from Beauty and the Beast. The same pattern worked for both dresses, with a few minor adjustments; the wand and tiara were still intact, and even the shoes still fit. Two unique, one of a kind Halloween costumes courtesy of two unused bridesmaid dress hanging in my closet. And, not only did they work for Halloween, they were in constant use throughout the year by my daughter and her friends whenever they played dress-up.

Got little boys instead of little girls? How about turning that black satin number into Batman’s cape or a red dress into Superman’s cape? Superheroes are big on capes you know. The point is to be creative, have some fun and recycle that dress. You’ll be glad you did.

Search For Bridesmaid Dresses

When you search for the perfect junior bridesmaid dresses, there are a few items you should keep in mind. By doing so, you will get the beautiful, elegant, and age appropriate dresses that you want.

The first item you should keep in mind is the style of the dress’s top. Most girls and young women are not able to fill out all tops like those found in strapless dresses, nor should they be expected to do so. Instead, pick a natural neckline, like a square, scoop, or v-neck.

In terms of necklines, almost any will work, as will any type of sleeve. From spaghetti straps to thicker straps, cap sleeves to long sleeves, as long as it maintains the elegance of the gown and the style of the wedding, you cannot go wrong.

Another item to keep in mind is the body of the dress. Whether one of your junior bridesmaids is more or less developed than the others, an asymmetrical skirt will flatter any frame. To create a break from the top and bottom of the dress, a simple sash can be added for style and separation.

Whether your wedding is in the spring, fall, or winter, you can find a dress to match your seasonal colors. Furthermore, you can easily find informal, formal, satin, or cotton style dresses to match the style of your wedding. You can also easily match your junior bridesmaid dresses to your bridesmaid dresses without sacrificing what you want on either end.

Although the decision is ultimately left up to the bride, it is always a good idea to take your bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids along while looking for colors and styles of bridesmaid dress. Even online at Bridesmaids.com, you can find some of the top designers and styles. Many times, you can find them at lower prices than in retail stores.

How To Choose The Style Of Your Bridesmaid Dresses

November 10th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses Comments Off

However, there are several factors to take into consideration when deciding on what type of bridesmaid dress to get.
For example:
Who will be your bridesmaids?
Are they grown adults, small children, or both?
Are they full-figured ladies or are they slim and petite?
What color hair/skin have your bridesmaids? - a yellow dress would not necessarily suit a blond or a redhead
Is the wedding in the summer or winter?
Do the maid’s dresses need a warm wrap if for a winter wedding?
These things have to be thought out before you go off hunting for the perfect bridesmaid gowns as not all styles of dress suit everyone. The same bridesmaid dress for a child will probably not suit a more mature bridesmaid. Therefore, you may have to choose two different styles of gowns, one for the adult maids and another for the small maids.

If your bridesmaids have different hair and skin coloring, and you want them all to be in the same color bridesmaid dresses, then you must try and pick a ‘neutral’ color that will suit all hair color and skin types. As in the example above, a yellow dress would not necessarily suit a blond or a redhead, but would be more suited to a brunette. An alternative to this scenario is to have a ‘rainbow’ wedding. Have a different colored dress to suit the individual bridesmaids depending on the color of their hair and skin. I have seen this type of wedding many times before, and it always looks so bright and colorful.

Even if the wedding is in the Spring or Summer and you have opted for an outdoor wedding, it still may be a good idea to purchase (or have made) some sort of wrap or material covering the shoulders of the bridesmaids as it still could be slightly chilly. Unfortunately, one can never predict the weather on such occasions!

To summarize, yes your bridesmaid dress do play a very important role in your wedding and they should be totally suited to each bridesmaid individually. However, they should certainly not ‘out-do’ the bride and her wedding dress. The role of the bridesmaid dress is to compliment the bride in an eloquent manner, whilst also blending in with the overall theme and color-scheme of the wedding.

The Importance Of Your Bridesmaids Dresses

November 10th, 2008 Lisa Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses Comments Off

Are you currently planning a wedding and wondering how important the style and color of the bridesmaid dresses are in matching with the theme of your wedding?

Are bridesmaid dresses so really important anyway? After all, it is the bride who is the one who shines above everybody else on her big day anyway!

Bridesmaid dresses do play an important role in any wedding. Having bridesmaid gowns that fit in with the overall theme of your wedding is important, let me explain why.

A well-chosen bridesmaid gown should contrast perfectly with the wedding dress, flowers and invitations as this definitely helps with setting the tone of your overall wedding. However, another major function of the bridesmaid dress is to contrast with the bride’s gown in such a way that it makes the brides dress stand-out even more than it does on its own. Therefore, a bridesmaids dress is a means to truly compliment the bride’s gown in an elegant and eloquent manner.
