How to Incorporate Valentine’s Day into Any Wedding
With Valentine’s Day just passed, you might want to think about how you can use the mood and elements of Valentine’s Day for your wedding! Unless you live in a climate that’s sunny and warm in February, or love the idea of a winter wedding, having a “Valentine’s Spring” Wedding could be both beautiful and original! Design your wedding, for example, around the idea of “Valentine’s Day in May”.
Model your invitations after fancy vintage Valentine’s cards, or antique love letters. For example, if you choose the card idea, you could use lace as a major element. If you choose the letter idea, calligraphy your invitations, fold them in the style of vintage love letters, and seal with a wax seal.
Instead of modeling your wedding around pink or red, break out of the box and go with a “White Valentine’s Day” idea. Fill your outdoor, or tiny chapel ceremony with strings of daisies or cream roses; wear flowers in your hair; dress your bridesmaids in white or cream; and ask your guests to come wearing white. Keep the event simple and affordable—think of small Valentine’s gifts people used to give each other over the decades—sketches; lockets; love birds; cootie catchers… research Valentine’s traditions and use these throughout your ceremony. For example, you could have a pretty antique cage of lovebirds at your reception; use elements like twine and cotton to make your day more affordable. Most of all, keep the event simple to reinforce the idea that love does not have to be elaborate to be special!
