How to Determine Your Wedding Style
If you are struggling to come up with a wedding theme or aesthetic that feels comfortable, look first at your home décor (or perhaps magazine photographs that exhibit the home décor you’ve always wanted). It is easy to mimic this sense of style and put together a wonderful wedding affair. If you need to design your home on a budget, for example, chances are your wedding will be on a budget also. Sleep white furniture from IKEA could translate into easy white linens and inexpensive candlesticks from CB2. Alternately, luxurious fabrics in your home might indicate that you want to spend some money on custom linens and lush flowers.
After you’ve looked at your budget, consider your color scheme. Do you tend to favor crisp, clean whites and natural fabrics, elegant pinks, or splashes of red and purple? What color is your couch, and what color are your walls? These are the easiest way to determine your wedding color scheme. Next, definite your style in one to two words. Are you minimalist modern, antique, or exotic? Is your style nautical, cottage or perhaps traditional?
Next, look for key pieces that you may want to incorporate in some way in your wedding. An old bookcase can become a place to set escort cards. A desk could be a great place to put a guest book. If your house has lots of light, consider a daytime reception perhaps. If you love mirrors, find a way to incorporate crystals into your wedding. Study photographs of your favorite rooms. What specific elements could be décor in your wedding? An easel holding a favorite work of art? Lots of lounge pillows? Candles? Truly ask yourself how each and every item that you love could be translated into your wedding décor.
