LOOK AROUND THE CORNER

November 9th, 2010 admin Posted in Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Trends, wedding ideas, wedding tips No Comments »

These days, destination weddings are all the rage. Brides either want to get married in a big city, or on a beautiful beach. With people becoming increasingly mobile, and living in various places before they get engaged, the options can be endless. Brides and grooms are, a lot of the time, from different places, and live in a different place from their parents or siblings. But it is becoming increasingly common to look everywhere OTHER than your hometown for your wedding venue. Sometimes, the perfect venue may be right under your nose—and it doesn’t have to be a “wedding factory”.
If you grew up in a city, what about your favorite restaurant? One of the best things about big cities is access to great food. Also think about your favorite museum. Where did you used to go, growing up, when you needed peace and quiet? Was it a park? An ice cream shop? A library? All of these can be turned into beautiful wedding venues.
If you grew up in a suburb, you might think your only options are run-of-the-mill hotels. But often suburban towns have hidden gems in them. There are quite a lot of historic buildings and smaller museums in suburbs. Or maybe there is a quaint bed and breakfast nearby. Or a lake where you used to swim? A park where you played as a child? Or even your own backyard. Drive around your town and the adjacent towns, especially in any historic areas, to see what catches your eye—you may be surprised at what you find.
If you grew up in the country, you have some wonderful resources available to you! Local farms, orchards, and fields make great wedding venues! A wonderful wedding idea—having it at a pick-your-own farm and giving guests a half hour to pick their own fruit or flowers as favors.

Choosing the Right Colour for the Bridesmaids Dresses

October 22nd, 2010 admin Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses, Bridesmaid Dresses Ideas, wedding ideas, wedding tips No Comments »

Bridesmaids may not be the bride but they equally deserve to look beautiful. There are many colours to choose and you may have a headache thinking of which one to go for your lovely bridesmaids. First of all you must determine the theme colour you have chosen for your own wedding. This will at least ease you in making the decision. The bridesmaid dresses need not have the exact same colour as your theme. It could be a shade lighter or it could be a totally different colour. As long as it complements one another, it should be fine.

You have to bear in mind of the body sizes and skin tones of your bridesmaids. Selecting colours that do not fit with these factors may bring out an unhappy bridesmaid. Darker colours make people who are large to appear slimmer. White or pale ones will make one looks bigger. Shorter bridesmaid dresses is suitable for those who are shorter. For taller women, both shorter and longer dresses could be worn. If one is slimmer and slender in built, she could carry a full skirt.

If you plan to choose colours like yellow or orange for bridesmaids dresses, you have to make sure it is not the theme colour. Yellow tends to be difficult to match unless you go for pale yellow or gold colours. Likewise orange will make the skin tone appear washed out. So go for another shade of orange that looks softer. Other colours like red, pink, purple, blue and green are usually more used. Whichever one you choose, you must make sure it suits every of your bridesmaids’ body. You could ask their opinions and views on the colour choice and maybe they have some good ideas. You already have much to plan for the wedding. There are times to maximise the help of others and your bridesmaids may contribute in the colours for their own dresses.

PLANNING FOR AFTERWARD

October 21st, 2010 admin Posted in Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Planning, Wedding Trends, wedding ideas, wedding tips No Comments »

While you are planning your wedding, “afterward” seems so unimportant and far away. Why worry about after when there are photographers to book, wedding invitations to send out, and cakes to taste?? But if you make a list early of the things you will need to do after the wedding, it will make it a whole lot easier to do them when the time comes, and you are tired and only want to move on with your married life! Here are some things to remember (especially before your wedding budget runs out):
1. Preserving your dress. Find a place that will clean and preserve your dress. If you are leaving right after your wedding, make a plan to give your dress to a family member who can take it to the cleaners for you.
2. Cleaning up and returning rented items. Did you rent silverware, tablecloths, or any other item? You don’t want to have to worry about that on your honeymoon. Ask a family member to return them for you the next day, so you don’t have to pay an overage charge. If you brought items from home, make sure they get back there as well. Someone will have to take them at the end of the night or the next morning if your venue allows.
3. Preserving your bouquet. Find a website or a local florist who preserves bouquets and arrange for the bouquet to get to the right place before the flowers die. Maybe you want to have them preserved in wax? Or flattened and framed?
4. Thank you cards. These cost money, just like invitations, especially if you are buying 200 of them! Make sure you don’t run out of money before you buy them. If you have time, pre-print address labels beforehand so when you get home from your honeymoon, all you have to do is write the note. It’s okay if the address isn’t handwritten.
5. Freezing your cake. If you want to save the top of your cake for your anniversary, also make arrangements for someone with a freezer available nearby to take it home at the end of the night.

Ways to Avoid Wedding Invitations Disasters

October 15th, 2010 admin Posted in Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Invitations Ideas, Wedding Invitations Style, wedding ideas No Comments »

A wedding should be a joyful event for the couple who has planned to enter into a bond of a lifetime. Wedding invitations are important to create the first impression of others toward the special occasion. However, as much as the couple wants it to be a great card and announcement, there are a few blunders that could be avoided.

Couples may opt for several ways to make the wedding invites. Whether it is handmade, homemade or custom-made from print shops, the words and sentences in the card should be proofread a few times. It is embarrassing to have the names of bride, groom, the parents or the person being invited to be spelled wrongly. The other information included such as the date, time and venue to witness the occasion should also be checked thoroughly before even making more prints for the invitations. The couple could do the checking by themselves and it will be better to have another person to give some ideas. Sometimes it is not just the error of misspelled words. It could be the sentences are not constructed in a meaningful or appropriate way. It is good to have second, third or more opinion on the wordings.

Another way to have better wedding invitations is to avoid mentioning the need of money or gifts for the event in a bold manner. No doubt people are prone to give gifts for the newlyweds. However, it is not seen as good manners to directly caution guests to come with presents and stuffs. The invitation’s main goal is to be a channel to let others know and witness the couple getting married. Beware of giving people the impression that their presence to the wedding is just for the couple to rip them off. Even if there is a need to mention about gifts, the wordings should not be offensive and should be at below the card with smaller fonts.

October 11th, 2010 admin Posted in Wedding Planning, wedding ideas, wedding tips No Comments »

A fun, meaningful and useful activity for you and your fiancé to do before your wedding is to come up with a list of “Rules to Live By” when you are married. Doing this will help resolve any tension you may have from wedding planning, and give you a break from thinking about the details and force you to think bigger picture. “Rules to Live By” are rules that will help you avoid arguments in the future, stay in love, and build a strong relationship as a married couple. 4. Learn a hobby or sport together, like tennis.
5. Have a glass of champagne together every Friday night.

Bridesmaids’ Dresses As Per Dress Code

September 28th, 2010 admin Posted in Bridesmaid Dresses, Bridesmaid Dresses Ideas, wedding ideas No Comments »

Bridesmaids dresses no longer take second or third place in the planning of a wedding. Since everyone wants to look good for the occasion, it seems a logical step to pay a certain level of attention to matters which seem small in nature. Bridesmaids, as part of their bridal responsibility, are meant to support the bride on her special day. As such, their dresses should speak and show this support loud and clear.

In the event the occasion is held in accordance to a wedding theme, decide on what it is and ensure all are aware of expectations, limitations and variations. The season in which the event is conducted is crucial to deciding on the dresses. Depending on whether it is a summer or winter wedding, colors and materials have to follow suit. It may not go down too well if the bridesmaid dresses are made of velvet material in the sweltering heat. There is nothing more depressing than a bunch of blistering bridesmaids, birthing beads of perspiration and sweat patches all over.

Numerous channels are available to source for suitable dresses. Although the local bridal shop still remains faithful to attend to the needs of the neighborhood, these brick and mortar retailers are being replaced by online stores which provide better prices. However, there is no substitute for trying on dresses in front of family and friends, and getting instant nods of approval or otherwise. Customer service in terms of adjustments is also non-existent with online buys. In the event the bride gives a heads up by sending out a save-the-date notice, it is advisable to look out for sales. Depending on the rigidity of the dress rules, regular attire can also pass off as bridesmaid dresses so long as they match the wedding theme. This then opens up a wider variety of shopping choices. If the budget allows it, custom-made dresses are available for the pickings. This however tends to be a more costly option.

Handmade Wedding Invitations Out Of The Ordinary

September 24th, 2010 admin Posted in Wedding Invitations Ideas, Wedding Planning, Wedding Trends, wedding ideas, wedding tips 1 Comment »

Before jumping the gun and assuming that handmade wedding invitations are for the artsy or rich, it is justifiable to take a step back and assimilate the situation. Safe to say, handmade incorporate some involvement of the hand in the making. However it does not state whose hand it is to be. With the availability of technology, this task is not as arduous as some may take it to be. Countless online sites are ready to impart ideas on wedding invitations designs to suit the occasion with step-by-step instructions on how to go about it.

These forms of invites ultimately achieve a unique sense which supersedes factory-generated ones. Creativity obviously plays an important role in achieving this. There is no reason to assume that these must only feature conventional materials. By doing some research on wedding stationery, it is quite amazing to find the assortment of choices. Who said one had to stick with boring old paper? Pay a visit to the local arts and crafts store to fuel one’s imagination. If a garden wedding is the choice for the occasion, perhaps the using of pressed flowers and leaves can add a distinctive touch unlike paper. Since one may not have sufficient amounts of ready foliage at hand, there is always the ability to source them online.

Certain types of fabric may be used as the base of handmade wedding invitations. Albeit soft and slithery ones such as satin and silk may not make the cut, stiffer cloths can be considered. Stamp or silk-screen the message onto the ready surface. As a finishing touch, attach an adequate piece of wood or branch to opposite ends of the cloth to produce a scroll of sorts.

To add sparkle to the happy occasion, stick ribbons, crystals, sequins or other types of accessories onto the invite. Else metallic ink to artistically pen the message also serves the same purpose. Whatever the ideas on wedding invitation designs may be, it is essential to not overdo it else you run the risk of creating an Andy Warhol when you were going for a Mona Lisa.
