The History of the Wedding Invitation

Many couples dote over which wedding invitations to choose to express the love they are feeling, but few couples know the history of the wedding invitations they are trying to choose. The wedding invitation was more a verbal communication rather than a physical one. When a couple was going to be married, a single person or several people were given the task to “invite” the most important guests. These wedding invitations were spoken and confirmed immediately. The bride’s parents, who most often paid for the wedding and after party, would take the list of acceptances into consideration when planning the event.

Weddings were much more formal in times when verbal communication was the only form of wedding invitation. Rarely did someone say no to an invitation when they were asked in person, so the guest list was chosen wisely and only the most influential people invited.

As history moved on, the wedding invitation took on a more physical form. Scrolls were created and handled with great care. These scrolls were given to families who were invited to the event. The RSVP would have to be hand written and delivered to the awaiting couple or parents of the bride. Again, the formality of the ceremony left few invitations unaccepted because anyone who was anyone in a given circle would surely be attending the wedding. The major change from verbal wedding invitation to written invitation came during the Age of Enlightenment. This is when the majority of people learned how to read before going off into the work force.

When written wedding invitations were introduced, the struggle to have the best, brightest and fanciest wedding invitations was also born. To this day, no matter how formal the wedding will be, the wedding invitations are selected with great care. The more original and spectacular the wedding invitation, the more likely the guest will be to confirm their attendance. (At least that is what the couple hopes!)

Choosing Your Wedding Stationary

November 13th, 2009 admin Posted in Wedding Invitations Explained, Wedding Invitations Ideas, wedding ideas, wedding tips No Comments »

When starting out choosing the wedding invitations, the first aspect that is chosen is the stationary on which the invitation will be printed. This choice can be difficult as there are so many choices in beautiful papers that can be used to announce one of the biggest days of your life. The stationary should match with the wedding theme and the colors of the wedding so that is one way to narrow down the choices.

The second way to narrow down the choices in wedding stationary is the bond thickness of the paper. Some wedding invitations will be printed on thick bonds and others on thin bonds. Each can bring a fresh, elegant look to the wedding invitation so the choice will depend on the feeling the couple wants to portray.

ZDI008

At some point in choosing the wedding invitation stationary, the couple will debate the professional wedding invitation with the wedding invitation printed at home. There is very little color variance, if any, when the wedding invitations are printed professionally. Home stationary can vary in color and tilt of the words printed on the page which can leave the wedding invitations looking less professional. Finding a happy medium with professional wedding invitations that are affordable is the optimal solution.

The wedding invitations can also be changed up for guests being invited to the wedding and those only invited to the reception. The wedding reception is the party that follows the wedding and many more guests will be attending the reception as opposed to the wedding. Some couples choose a more formal wedding invitation stationary for the full invites versus the reception only invitations.

After choosing the wedding invitation stationary, the couple will move on to wording and font selection. But the entire process starts with a huge selection of wedding invitation stationary that is both professional and beautiful.

Winter Wedding Invitations

A winter wedding color scheme tends to fall into one of two categories. The couple will either follow the clean, serene colors of winter with silvers and blues or warm up the winter wedding invitations with reds and browns. Each color scheme offers a unique set of winter wedding invitation options for design and presentation. The key to choosing the best color scheme is first choosing the colors for the wedding.

Wedding planning begins first in the mind before any real plans are made. The couple will discuss the potential colors to use in their wedding and while they may not yet be thinking about the wedding invitations, they will be taking the season into consideration in regards to the colors. A winter wedding often includes themes of snowflakes, crystals and crisp colors. The winter wedding invitations can be selected based upon these color and design choices. The most common winter wedding invitations with a cool feel with be either white or blue and incorporate an image related to the winter season.

For the couple who wants to choose a warmer color set for their winter wedding, red is a popular invitation color. The wedding invitation may still be white, but the design or wording may appear in a warm red. A winter wedding red is far more deep than a traditional red. The warmer the color, the better the invitation will look. Browns are also a popular choice for winter wedding invitations. Brown can be paired with red and white with ease and when these colors are used in the wedding theme, the look will be complete.

A professional wedding invitation is far more beautiful than one created at home. The colors are deep and all invitations will match perfectly. Raised lettering and matching response cards and envelopes complete the package for your winter wedding invitations.

Autumn Wedding Invitations

September 28th, 2009 admin Posted in Wedding Invitations Explained, Wedding Invitations Ideas, Wedding Invitations Style, Wedding Planning, Wedding Trends, wedding ideas, wedding tips No Comments »

Autumn is the new summer, in terms of wedding planning, with couples choosing the autumn months as the perfect time to tie the knot. One of the best things about an autumn wedding is the chance to use rich, deep colors in both the wedding theme and the wedding invitations. Wedding invitations for an autumn wedding can include leaves, autumn flowers and pine cones, but the color choices are really where the invitations take life. In terms of wedding invitations, autumn is the warmest time of year.

While summer weddings are often limited to bright, vibrant colors – the autumn wedding opens the door to those comfort colors that make a bold statement. Deep browns, reds and oranges can be combined with creams and deep greens. Complimenting these dark colors is simple with the use of gold and silver touches on the autumn wedding invitations. Another fantastic color combination for autumn wedding invitations is the dark invitation with cream lettering. The contrast is brilliant enough to catch the reader’s eye and beautiful enough to stop them in their tracks.

The autumn wedding invitations can be paired with response cards and matching envelopes. Save the Date cards can also be created to match the autumn themed chosen for the wedding invitations. When ordering the autumn wedding invitation sets, it is important to go with a professional printer. The quality of the invitations will truly be superior to any home printed invitation and if additional invitations are needed, they will match the originals in both quality and style.

The autumn wedding feels richer, bolder and more exotic than any other wedding theme. The colors, designs and patterns used to create autumn wedding invitations feel warmer which is the perfect feeling when it comes to expressing the love a couple has on their wedding day.

How to Throw a Wedding on a Tiny Budget

September 26th, 2009 admin Posted in Wedding Invitations Ideas, wedding ideas, wedding tips No Comments »

It’s a hard thing to do, throwing a wedding on a budget… but that doesn’t mean it still can’t be sophisticated! You just have to know what to spend your money on. Here is an example of a great shoestring budget wedding. Hint it’s all about comfortable simplicity.

Location Have it in a public park in late springtime. Cost is minimal, and most parks have a pavilion for shade or cover if it rains. If it’s a beautiful day, guests can wander outside.

Guest count Under 50. This is the hardest part! Keep your bridal party to 3 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen at most; tell family members it is an adult-only wedding to avoid having to invite your second cousin’s toddler whom you’ve never met… A great way to come up with your invite list Keep track of the people you call or who call you outside of work (and NOT email). The ones you literally speak to or see at least once a month are the ones you invite.

Décor A pavilion is also a great place for minimal but beautiful décor—just keep your palette subtle. String white lights and lanterns, and rent basic white table cloths; set the tables with simple white roses you bought and arranged yourself, in silver or crystal vases (you can buy these in an antique shop for a great deal). Purchase simple white linen napkins, and ask to use your parents’ or relatives’ collection of silverware.

Invitations Do not send an email invitation. Instead, check out VPONSALE for a variety of affordable invitations! Another approach—hire a calligrapher to write one invitation—then copy it on thick white paper. This way, you’ll still get a sophisticated look.

Time of day Brunch, afternoon tea, or early evening are all great times for a park wedding. If you go with the early evening option, food may be a bit more expensive. One of my favorite ideas is hiring a restaurant or caterer to serve a sophisticated “comfort food” option – blue cheese burgers, julienne fries, mini macaroni and cheese, etc. Who wouldn’t love that?

Drinks Stick with champagne, wine, beer, soda and a signature cocktail. Another creative option flavored sodas.

Cake Purchase a variety of pastries or chocolates from your favorite bakery; then have a small simple buttercream cake (you can even make it yourself).

Music if you’re not having a late night wedding, you can forego the DJ or band option. Instead, hire a jazz trio or a harpist to provide fun background music. For another surprise, hire a local barbershop quarter to surprise your guests!

Favors I always think food makes the best favors. With a low guest count, you can afford to make the favors yourself. I love the idea of homemade cookies (recipe included), meringues, or miniature pies.

You definitely want a unique wedding invitation. Who wouldn’t want something like it? You can do that by making the theme exclusive and special — something that will make it standout.

You can step out and visit printing shops to canvass different styles and rates. By telling them what exactly it is that you want, they can suggest what will fit your idea. For convenience, you can go to an online wedding store that offers wedding invitations. There is an array of these invites from ordinary to extraordinary. It’s up to you if you want to apply a classic or a much more modern theme.

You can also opt to create your own invitation. This will make you save money if you have your own printer. However, if you want a more decent look on them, it is still best to let a professional do it for you.

Aside from a special wedding theme, a unique wedding invitation can be comprised of laces, ribbons, dried flowers, dried leaves, decorative papers, shells and others. There are styles where in the invitations are painted by hands. Some have their wordings etched on a flat decorative wood. They really standout; moreover, they make a difference and a lasting impression.

Want to share your wedding theme song to the ones you’re inviting? You can ask the invitation shop to come up with something that will play music. It can make them feel how special this coming wedding is going to be.

It may not be easy to come up with a unique wedding invitation; but it’s worth the effort. After all, it’s going to be your wedding herald. Therefore, it’s worth the investment.

Some Essential Wedding Etiquette Reminders

August 23rd, 2009 admin Posted in Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Invitations Explained, Wedding Invitations Ideas, wedding ideas, wedding tips 4 Comments »

Once you start planning for your wedding, you will also need to take care of printing and sending out wedding invitations. Therefore, you should not be careless about sending the invitations to each one of your guests. Your wedding invitation is not merely a piece of paper where the particulars of your wedding are listed and enumerated. It is also important to send the invitations in the right way so that your invited guests will feel honored and excited to take part of the event.

Here are a few reminders when making and sending out your wedding invitation:

What You Should Do:

• When inviting guests with their respective dates, you also need to address the partners or dates of your guests in their complete names. It is more appropriate for you to find out the names of their dates so you can include them in the invitation.

• If you are inviting unmarried couples, you need to send wedding invitations separately. Also you have to send out separate invitations to children older than 18, no matter that they are still living with their parents.

• You need to state clearly the name of the state, the date, and the time

• You need to mail the invitations six weeks prior to the wedding date

• As for the wedding registry, you don’t need to mention them in the invitation, but by word only.

What You Should Not Do:

• You should refrain from using punctuation marks on the invitation
• If you are sending out invitations for singles, they should be addressed as “the Guest”
• For an event primarily organized only for adults, you should address the guests as “Mr. and Mrs.”
• You should print the wedding registry in your invitation
• Request people from your office as well as their dates to attend the reception.

Planning a wedding successfully is important, so you will have a memorable occasion to remember in the years to come.
